The northern Gulf of Mexico is home to some of the world’s best fishing because of the immense network of rigs and platforms that create the equivalent of a giant reef system.

The Mexican Gulf Fishing Company is a world-class charter service operating year-round out of Venice Marina and covering the northern Gulf of Mexico.

Their fleet of Freeman catamarans will take you to some of the world’s best fishing in comfort and style, with enough speed to allow the captains to adapt to changing conditions and weather.

Captain Kevin Beach of the Mexican Gulf Fishing Company has been fishing out of Venice, Louisiana for more than 30 years.

Kevin thrives on witnessing “firsts.”

A customer’s first tuna, first billfish, or even first time seeing blue water feeds Kevin’s own excitement and love of fishing.

Yellowfin Tuna are highly-esteemed as a sport fish and considered by many to be the best-eating tuna.

The meat is very light compared to most other tuna, except the albacore, which has white meat.

“Y.F.T.s” are built for speed and stamina, live for about seven years, and can reproduce by age two or three.

Yellowfin are both pelagic and seasonally migratory.

They’re often caught near large structures, making the many rigs in the Gulf of Mexico a prime location to target yellowfin.

In Louisiana, the daily bag limit is three per person per day, at least 27 inches.

The current all-tackle record for a yellowfin tuna stands at 427 pounds.

Port Mansfield sits on Texas’ famed Laguna Madre.

The Port Mansfield Channel cuts through Padre Island, making this quiet fishing village one of the closest ports to the deep waters off the Texas coast.

Fishing is under federal jurisdiction starting at nine nautical miles offshore.

Inside the nine-mile line, anglers can keep four red snapper per day that are 15 inches or longer.

In Texas state waters, circle hooks are required when using natural bait.

Captain Chad Kinney has been fishing the waters surrounding Port Mansfield for more than 30 years, racking up a number of wins in tournaments for an impressive number of species.

Bamm Bamm Fishing Charters offers everything from bay fishing to overnight trips to the floating rigs in the deep waters of the Gulf.

Chad’s wife, Erika runs their tackle shop, Laguna Madre Baits, supplying anglers with everything they need for an exciting day, or night, on the water.

The Red Snapper is one of the most valuable species in American waters, found throughout the Gulf of Mexico and up the East Coast as far north as Massachusetts.

Their pinkish-red coloring is their most distinguishing feature, along with a sharply pointed anal fin.

Juvenile red snapper feature a dark spot on their upper sides, below the dorsal fin.

The all-tackle world record for an American Red Snapper is 50 pounds, 4 ounces.

Little River, South Carolina, is about 20 miles north of the hustle and bustle of Myrtle Beach.

Myrtle Beach is widely known as one of America’s most popular vacation spots, but it’s also a great place to set course for an amazing fishing adventure inshore, offshore, or in the Gulf Stream.

Low Country Fishing Charters strives to provide the best possible fishing experience anywhere along the “Grand Strand,” which is a large expanse of beaches spanning from Georgetown to Little River, South Carolina.

Operating out of the Myrtle Beach Yacht Club in Little River, Low Country Fishing Charters caters to anglers of all experience levels and can custom design a trip for everyone from hardcore fishermen to fishing families.

This prime location offers shots at a variety of species including mahi-mahi, flounder, mackerel, trout, redfish, and cobia, just to name a few.

David Cutler has more than fifteen years experience as a charter captain on the inshore and offshore waters of the Carolinas.

Steve “Boomer” Montgomery is a seasoned mate-turned-captain who happens to be a full-time firefighter and paramedic when he’s not putting customers in the middle of hot fishing action.

The greater amberjack is the largest and most common of the jacks and the most prized by fishermen for both its fight and its mild, tender meat.

AJs run in packs and when one is caught, others will often follow it to the surface.

The current all-tackle world record for a greater amberjack is 163 pounds, 2 ounces.

Cobia are wild-caught in the U.S. from Virginia through the Gulf of Mexico.

Adult cobia travel alone or in small groups, but are often found in the presence of sharks.

Sharks and cobia seem to have an almost symbiotic relationship, most likely because the cobia’s closest living relative is a remora.

Recreational anglers target cobia because it’s a large, powerful fish that puts up a good fight and provides a tasty meal.

Costa Rica’s Crocodile Bay Resort

March and April are great months for offshore fishing at Costa Rica’s Crocodile Bay Resort.
During the time we spent there most recently, folks were hooking up as many as fifteen sailfish per day.

This year, BigWater Adventures decided to do something a little different, and it paid off big time!

Fishing Director Todd Staley and Captain Germain recommended we go deep-dropping for ground fish. We never expected to be as busy on this shoot as we were there two days we went fishing.

The Pargo Seda can be found in the eastern Pacific, ranging from Mexico to Peru. Adults are generally caught in open water over sandy or hard bottom at depths of at least 240 feet. Pargo Seda can grow to lengths of 37 inches. Their diet consists of crustaceans, bony fish, octopus, cuttlefish, or squid. The Pargo Sera has a high commercial value in Latin America because of the excellent quality of its meat.

It was a species-first for both Mark Davis and BigWater Adventures.

The lure that made it all happen was Yo-Zuri’s prototype butterfly jig, which imitated a squid and was like candy to the Pargo Seda.

Crocodile Bay Resort is an award-winning sportfishing destination celebrating their 17th season when this show was filmed.

BigWater Adventures has made this a go-to location because the opportunities for success are endless.

Besides presenting some of the best fishing in the world, including inshore, offshore, kayak fishing, and surfcasting, Crocodile Bay offers custom vacation packages the whole family can enjoy.

No other resort offers such a complete range of adventures both on the ocean and in the rainforest.

You may come for the fishing, but you’ll stay for the opportunity to stand with Mother Nature and share in all the virtues of this incomparable locale.
